What Can A PV Module Do For You?

Cottage with Solar Panels in Roof
Once installed, a PV system can provide a source of electricity to many appliances in your house, caravan or even your boat. Below are some examples:

Greenhouse, Out-houses, Huts and Stables
Solar panels are the perfect way of providing electricty to buildings that are not connected to a main power supply such as stables, sheds and garages without having to pay for the mains supply! Lighting is the main use for external buildings but you can use the PV modules for other things too.

  Powering your Boat or Caravan
Both fixed and portable solar panels are ideal cost saving systems to use in your caravan or boat as it means you do not have to hook-up to an electricity supply that may be costly. The modules can be used to power your lighting and some electric appliances. Shower pumps and water pumps (on boats) can also be run off the PV system.

Powering your Home
The list is endless to what you can use solar energy for but it all depends on how much power you require. PV modules in Scotland are more suited to low energy requirements such as lights or other 12 volt appliancies.

For 240 volt aplliances, a greater area is required.

rule of thumb - 6 square metres of panel per Kw of energy required. i.e. a normal kettle is around 2 Kw.
