>> Permanent Redirect - By Design
How the CarverONE Migrated Site 301 Permanent Move Redirect Works
All pages in the old site are redirected to the home page of the new migrated site, as opposed to the corresponding page on the new migrated site. This is by design. This way is more reliable, especially for search engines... they'll visit any page on the old site and be redirected to the home page of the new site ... from there, they can spider all pages on the new site.
If directed to corresponding page on the new site and migrated pages are removed/deleted.... a visitor to the old CarverONE page would then get redirected to a deleted page therefore get the 'Page not found' error, with nowhere to go. By redirecting to the home page of the new migrated site, it doesn't matter whether the intended page (i.e. the user going to the page on the old site) exists or not. Any adverts I.E. AdWords etc will be directed to the CarverTWO Home page.

>> Back-Ups of your Website Data
You may think I'm harping on a bit (My surname is Harper!) about back-ups...
As we all use our website the content becomes more valuable therefore a back-up of your site is imperative. For example a client of mine used the easy to use back-up and restore within the Carver website last week that saved them a potential headache. Its a great feature.
Please Back-Up every edit to your site.
How to do it: Main > System Admin > Database > Create Backup
>> Email Subject to Prevent going into SPAM folder
A client of mine was frustrated with me this week because I had apparently not replied to her emails. On inspection I did receive the emails but they went straight into my SPAM folder ready to be deleted - REASON - the Subject line was "Hi There Its Me...". Our filters identified this as SPAM - a number of SPAM emails are floating about with this subject. More and more companies are setting up strong filters. So do this: Write your Subject line in a business manner. For example - Support Request, Edit Required to Website etc. Also take this advice when communicating with your contacts. May save you some frustration.
>> 3 Deep Links
Good advice is to ensure your site visitors can find what they want on your site within three clicks. So keep your navigation within your site nice and simple and straight to the point. Allow your visitors to find what they want within three clicks.
>> Performance Improvement
The Support team have worked on all the Britnett servers in the last six months and are happy to report a marked improvement in performance. If you don't want to read the stats below, here it is in conclusion: Both Carver ONE and TWO are running at a good return rate of speed and reliability. The new ADV server is our King Server. It was ranked as one of the fastest servers in the world - actually the fastest in the UK. ADV server runs at almost ten times as fast as the Carver ONE and TWO. Saying that the speed you see with the naked eye depends a lot on your PC and connection to the Internet. For the anoraks - here are the stats.
Carver ONE -
Connect Time 0.099s
Transfer Time 0.102s
Transfer Rate 561.73kb/s
Carver TWO -

Integrating Your Business Website With Your Business
January 2008
Britnett Support Manager - Mike Dodgson - has sent me his Helpful Tips for Search Engine friendly websites. Although Search Engine Optimisation is a massive subject, Mike has sent us a few simple 'housekeeping' Helpful Tips listed below.
PS - Is your website using BizSub Search Engine Optimisation and service? If not ask your Britnett AIA for a demonstration. Reply to find your local Britnett AIA.
Ensuring The Search Engines Return To Your Site
Your business website should be indexed by the search engines. To keep them coming back there a number of things you can do - Pleas read my Helpful Tips below and action as necessary.
1) Updating Your Website Regularly. Search Engines view active websites as more important, meaning they will come back on a more regular basis to look for the new information that may have been added. Try to think of words and offers to add to your site - you should aim to update your site at least twice a week.
2) Are Your Keywords On Your Homepage? We ask that you look at your homepage of your site to see how many times your keywords are mentioned on your homepage. For example; a Used Car Dealer - how many times are the words 'used' 'car' and 'dealer' mentioned on your homepage?
Try to have a few mentions of them spread throughout your homepage text.
3) Making Your Keywords Bold. Research shows that Search Engines such as Google look at web-pages and judge words in bold to be the 'key words' for that particular site. For example, if your a Used Car Dealer (again!) and you've got the words that represent your business (as above) on your Homepage, then make them bold to notify Google that they are your 'key words'. If you specialise in say Audi cars list this key word in bold too.
I hope this helps, if anyone has any other ideas please share!
If you have any questions about the above Helpful Tips please feel free to contact the Britnett Support Team and/or your Local AIA whose name is below.

Integrating Your Business Website With Your Business
November 2007
We've recently been asked a lot of questions about using images on the websites, so I thought this would be a good time to talk about 5 helpful tips about using images.5 Things to Know About Using Images
>> Image Ratio
Beware of a "good" image to text ratio - We recommend a 30/70 image to text ratio as a healthy mix for maximum deliver-ability. (30% Images and up to 70% text) Why? If your website is image heavy you run the risk of slowing your site response time. I've recently been looking at a heavy image site that looks fantastic once loaded but if I was a new visitor it would take too long to load and I'm finding that one key across multiple websites that run too slow are image heavy. The modern way seems to be more image and less text. If you want to go this way just make sure your images are kept light - see below. Also search engines are blind to images!
>> ALT Tags - Mouse Over Text
When you add an image you must give all of your images Alt Tags also know as mouse over text.
- This is easily added inside Carver websites. Simply describe the image to help your site visitors and to comply with DDA regulations.
>> Don't Duplicate
Don't keep adding the same image. If your image is added once within your website - once is enough. If you need the image to appear on another page simply use the same image source. Britnett Carver warns you if you attempt to add a duplicate image.
>> Keep Images Light
Don't use heavy images - Try to keep your images under 350kb because if they take too long to load your impatient site visitors will likely move on to their next website. If your images are too large, use a tool to make them "lighter" without sacrificing too much quality.
>> Link Your Images
Don't forget to link your images - make sure if you include an image you link off from it. Everyone expects to be able to get somewhere by clicking on an image.

>> Speed Up Website Load Speeds.
Reduce your Web page load times, especially if you have a lot of pictures.
If your Website doesn't load quickly, your visitors click away -- taking their business elsewhere. Here are some ideas for making your pictures load faster:
1-Split up one long page into several, shorter pages.
2-Use an optimiser to reduce image file sizes. (Not Sure?..Ask your AIA about this - Britnett Support can Optimise images for you when requested)
3-Use coloured text rather than images for banner messages. This reduces the size of your site therefore better download speeds.
>> Pose As Your Own Customer.
Run through your entire website as a site visitor would. See what potential roadblocks can cause customers to abandon your site. Fix any problems you find now and add helpful directions. Think how you would talk to a visitor over their shoulder watching their progress through your site-Add your comments and direction.
>> Add Signature to all Outgoing Emails (Also known as a Footer).
Sorry to 'Harp-on' about this. This simple addition will make you look more professional and advertise your business message. Adding your company details at the Footer of all outgoing emails not only is good business practice - Its a great Free marketing message that links to your website.
This page shows you How To Add A Signature To Your E-mails using Outlook Express. http://www.britnett-carver2.co.uk/britnett/prods/42.html
>> Finding Out A Hex Code (Advanced Users).
A Hex code is a number that identifies a colour. This Hex code can be edited into your Britnett-Carver website to make boarders and text a specific colour. Our Britnett Graphics Team are often asked by clients how to find the Hex Code. Here is an easy way to find out any colour's Hex code using Quick HTML Colour Picker. Install this Free software and follow the instructions.

With Quick HTML Colour Picker, you can easily pick any colour from the screen. You can preview the colour, use mouse or keyboard to select the colour you wanted, and get the colour in RGB and HTML format. You can cancel a capture by "Esc" key or right-clicking. Here are five simple ways you can prepare to take advantage of the upcoming Christmas shopping rush.
>> 1 Place pay-per-click ads.
Reach potential buyers who are searching specifically for the products (or services) offered on your site through pay-per-click advertising. Your Website can appear at the top of major search engine results pages if you bid on the right words. If you are a BizSub customer Britnett will manage your Google Pay Per Click account for you. Bidding on general keywords will attract more traffic to your site but not necessary orders, but bidding on specific keywords will narrow those users from random browsers to potential buyers. E.G. - Bid on key word 'Chocolate' will increase visits to your site but bid on 'Organic Chocolate' will bring specific potential buyers. These more specific phrases are also cheaper. If your new to AdWords set the campaign to end in 30 days - the default if you leave it in Google is the year 2010! This way you can check the performance of your spend.
>> 2 Optimise the content to be search engine friendly.
Check your Web statistics often to see which term's visitor's search for on your site and which pages they are visiting. Then edit your META info and title on your Web pages and products appropriately. Make sure the text embedded in a link (the anchor text) matches user search terms. Test all of your links to make sure they work properly. Britnett-Carver clients can ask for web statistics to be added to the site or request a report. Please contact your local Authorised Agent. Find out who your local Agent is please Contact Us.
Relevance is key because content that isn't related to your products can confuse potential customers and give people the impression that you're deceptive. Consider writing descriptive paragraphs next to each photo or include a company background for a personal touch. If you are not running a SEO service on your site now - start it immediately. It takes three months to establish a site in Google.
>> 3 Add Christmas graphics to your site.
Get into the Christmas spirit. Shoppers appreciate the convenience of buying gifts online. Retail shops during the holidays can be a nightmare. Make their experience at your site fun and light-hearted by adding Christmas-oriented images. Add one Christmas image and page right now. Tell visitors what you intend to do different towards the Christmas period. Have a end of season sale - suggest your visitors buy gifts for Christmas Now!
Another idea is to send your customers email newsletters full of gift ideas. This secures your relationship with current clients and lets them know you're thinking of them. Make sure your email list is OPT-IN. Britnett- Carver has an exceptional Email Capture Form as standard.
Note - Britnett Clients have access to the Britnett Graphics Team - speak with your Local Agent about new graphics for your business.

>> 4 Run special promotions.
Shoppers can't resist a good bargain. Discount items that aren't selling well. Offer a discount or promotion for several items if purchased together. Offer gift certificates or free shipping if buyers spend a certain amount of money. For last-minute shoppers, offer overnight delivery. Short of marketing ideas? Go to your local supermarket or retail electrical shed - look around you will see 2 for 1 deals, 10% extra etc.
Promotions are an easy way to establish a good rapport and attract people back to your site next year. If you do offer a promotion, make sure you mention it on every page. If you add information to the panels in Britnett-Carver this cascades to all content pages. The more people are reminded, the more likely they'll make use of it.
>> 5 Offer multiple payment options.
This assures customers that you own a legitimate site and you place their convenience above your own. Some people are nervous about providing credit card numbers online. Give your site visitors an option to call you to order or to ask questions. Any site with no phone number to contact should be avoided. If you are using the PayPal Gateway, add the PayPal logo to your site.
Make shipping information easy to access (I strongly recommend offering Free! shipping on all items if possible) by adding a content page listing the last date an order can be made for Christmas delivery. Save yourself the pain of customer complaints and returns by being honest about meeting set delivery dates.
We hope this helps you prepare for Christmas 2007. Start now - "Procrastination is the thief of time."

>>The Value Of Your Business Website.
Your company website is becoming more important these days. Especially if you have 'Integrated it with your business'. A client of mine has just sold his business for £2.1 million. His website was an integral part of the sale. Although the website is only a 40 page content website. Don't get me wrong, the website was only a small part of a very successful business, I was interested to note that questions were asked about the website status by the buyers agent.
>>Keeping Your Site In Good Health.
Do this:
Always Back Up Your Sites. As soon as you have made any content and/or structure changes make a back up. Whenever editing a site at any time and you are happy with what you have produced; make a back up. This is called a 'Good' Backup. Before you add any special HTML code etc make a back up. This way if it goes wrong you can restore to how it was at the back up point and start again. Therefore restore to a 'Good' state.
If you report an error on your Carver site our Support Team will ask have you restored to a Good Back up. Unfortunately sometimes the answer is "What's that!" So please do it - its only a few clicks and can save a lot of potential head aches in the future.
Keep a Separate Data Backup
It's good practice to have one folder on your PC dedicated to website data. Add any data to be added to the site to this file first. When you do use the CMS system- pull the data from this dedicated folder. All content for the website will originate on a PC anyway, simply get into the habit of saving all website data to the dedicated folder. This folder along with all your office files should be backed up often.
TIP
An external hard drive for backup purposes can be purchased for about £50.00. Buy one with an external power supply.
Should you make a mistake
If you make a mistake when editing a page, for example you delete a paragraph of text by accident, you could simply go to another page without submitting your changes. This way your changes will not be saved, you can return to the page that will show your accidentally deleted text.
>>Congratulations to The Furniture Seller.
My site of the month. This site is packed full of information and products, it has a line of text that I find exciting: "Our site is updated daily." www.thefurnitureseller.co.uk
Britnett Client Helpful Tips Integrating Your Business Website With Your Business June 2007 >>How To View Your Website Full Size. To remove the various toolbars on your browser to just see the website; just press F11 on your keyboard. Then again to revert. >>How To Zoom In and Out When Viewing a Website. Hold down the 'Ctrl' key and tap '+' or '-' on your keyboard (top right). This will Enlarge the website + or reduce -. Microsoft I.E. (Internet Explorer V7 only) changes the whole site including graphics where with FF (Fire Fox) this browser changes the text only. With I.E. (My preferred browser) the % of the site you are viewing appears bottom right of your screen. IE 130% etc. >>Take A Snap Shot of a Website. View the website you are interested in - simply tap 'Print Screen'. This will add an image/snap shot of the page you are viewing in your PC's temp memory. You can then copy this image called a Screen Shot into the programme you need. If you copy into a graphics program this will give you the options to cut/crop images or re-size as needed. Ask permission from the site owner when copying content and images from websites.

>>New Website Platform. Britnett have launched a New! Website Software called Carver2. Carver2 websites are hosted on the new Britnett high performance server. With Carver2 you can have your own domain name associated with your website, full Content management and FTP access if required. To see if Carver2 will benefit you please contact your AIA (Authorised Independent Agent).
>>Good Advice: Save Your Site Changes As You Go... All Carver websites have the feature that allows you to backup your website. I recommend you click this option before making any major changes to your site. This way if you make a mistake you can restore to how your site was before your started. Get into the habit of clicking backup at the end of a satisfactory site edit also.
>>How To See Google Cache. Search Google - On the SERP (Search Engine Results Page) click the grey link 'Cached' this will show you Googles snap shot of that page.
>>Understand How You Are Performing In The Search Engines. Getting a mental picture of how your site is performing in the search engines is confusing to say the least. To help, I suggest you add to the footer of your website the date you last updated your website for example 'Last Updated 01-05-2007'. Reason: When you see the cached version of your website page in Google, for example, you will see a snap shot of the page. The date shown on this 'snap shot' you placed in the footer will tell you what information Google have in their data. This data is the data we search when using Google. At the top of the Google cache you will see the date Google visited your website. |

>>Making Emails Work For You. Here are three tips to ensure Emails work for you:
One: Be extra polite. Emails can easily come across, not intentionally, as hard or aggressive. Add a line to your email that shows this is not the intention.
Two: Avoid CAPS, this is interpreted as shouting. DID YOU HEAR THAT!
Three: Identify yourself. Introduce yourself or add a signature to all outgoing emails. (A signature is a block of text that can be automatically added to all Outlook email software. We have published a page how to do this here) Always add a link to your website.
Show Good Intentions: Start your emails with something like "Hope you are well..." | "Thank you for your last email..." End with "Assure you of my best attention at all times..." | "Feel free to call me or reply to this email with any questions..."
>>Search Engine Changes - Google. Algorithm Change: Google do not like pages with identical links on the same page to the same destination page. If a page on your site has say two identical links to the same destination page - simply re-name one of the links so they appear different. Edit Your Site Often: Its good practice to check and edit your page every week. Ensure your staff are familiar with your company site.
What You Do Not Offer May Attract Clients: Add to your site what you Do Not Offer. Example: If you are a car rental firm but do not rent vans. Add to the text we do not offer a van rental service. This way a search engine visitor may find your site when searching van rental service. Then they may rent a car instead?
>>Need To Know Who Is looking At Your Site? Britnett-Carver will accept Stat-Counter on your site. Stat-Counter will show you what phrases visitors are typing in the search engines to find you, pages they visit on your site and where in the world they are. Its easy to add, its Free and your Authorised Agent will add it for you if you ask. |

>>A Trick 'Add This Page To Your Favourites' Button. Request the Code: Simply paste onto the page you want the button to appear on. A button will appear on your selected page - a site visitor can click the button to add the selected page to favourites. So easy. SAMPLE HERE: www.britnett-carver2.co.uk/britnett/prods/67.html
>>Successful BizSub and Carver site. Client Says:"Business is booming through my website due to BizSub. The volume of orders are almost out of control through the website!" Andrew Harburn Owner - Period House Store.
>>Suggestions About Adding Content. Content text in your site is important - Content is King. Search engines read your site, so be as descriptive as possible. Presume the Search engines don't know about your product or service and your industry.
EXAMPLES: If you sell motorbike accessories - add content about the motorbike. If you provide accountancy services - add content about accountancy in general. If you sell storage solutions - add content about what you would use these solutions for. If you are a website designer - add content about website design in general.
>>Make Advertising More Cost Effective. All adverts must have your website address included. Dedicate at least 25% of the advert to your site. Explain what your site visitors can find when they visit.
EXAMPLES: See our brochure on-line... You can order on-line... Full company profile is located... For Website only special offers... Website portfolio... See completed contracts... New stock arriving daily-details... |

>>Use Microsoft Word to Structure Your Website Text Content. You can create a formatted page of text in Word then paste into Carver and the formatting works. For example you can make text bold, different colours, sizes, underline etc in Word. Then simply copy and paste into your Carver web page - the formatting works. The reverse of this is to remove formatting from text. For example copy text from a Word page or a website page that includes formatting. This formatting can be stripped out by pasting the content into Microsoft Notepad. Then copy this text from Notepad into your web page.
>>Un-Formatting text from Word and Publisher. Copying from Word and Publisher is fine and works when pasting into Carver. But sometimes there is some formatting within that is not recognised in Carver. To be safe we recommend you copy the text into Notepad first then paste into Carver. Although this does not transfer the formatting you probably want, it s the safest way and may help you avoid time picking through code. An alternative is to copy and paste small parts of text at a time. Check as you go.
>>Easy way to Create HTML Emails. HTML emails are emails with active links and images etc. Simply write the email as you want it in your website page and then copy and paste into OE (Microsoft Outlook Express) All the images and links you have on your web page will work in your new HTML email. >>Companies Act 1985 - New Legislation for Jan 2007. As a business owner every company should list its company registration number and VAT registration number on all company emails and website. I suggest you set up your signature (text at bottom of all outgoing emails) to include your full address, contact numbers and a link to your site also. How To Add A Signature To Your E-mails |

>>How To Make Christmas work for your Business. In the B-to-B world, you aren't trying to get your clients to buy anything from you for the holidays, but Christmas affords the opportunity to show them your gratitude and stay connected. Here are some ideas for you. Send a customised Christmas e-card - A great way to connect with your customers or clients is to send a personalised Christmas e-card - I.E. Just an email or a link to a specific page on your website. You can include a photo of your staff along with their signatures or message. You can also include a poignant thought, poem, or short story that helps to express the sentiments of the season.
Send an email invitation - Planning a Christmas get-together for your clients or customers? Invite them with an email invitation. You can also use email to send Christmas -themed event confirmation or updates in addition to paper invitations. Make a charitable donation - Making a donation to a charity in the name of a customer or client is a great way to share the holiday spirit. You can tell them about it in a holiday-themed email card. Instead of posting expensive Christmas cards you can email a Christmas message and donate the amount usually spent on postage and carts - remember your time to put together - to a charity.
>>December, the Perfect Time to Up-date Your Site If Christmas is a quieter time for your business; take some time to develop your company. Work ON your business rather than IN your business. This should include tidying your site. Pretend to be a potential client and visit your site - how useful is your site to them. Don't forget adding FAQ's and other helpful information for your current clients. Pinch some ideas from Britnett Portfolio www.britnett-carver2.co.uk/britnett/portfolio.html |

>>Five Christmas Season Ideas to Increase Website Sales
Online Christmas shopping will reach record-high levels this year with 114 million users going online to browse for gifts, according to JupiterResearch's Online Retail Holiday Forecast 2006. The report stated that Web-based holiday retail sales will grow 18 percent with £20 billion spent solely online.

>>Regularly Check Your Email Contact Works - Avoid Email Account Open Link-Explained... Go to your site and send a TEST email enquiry regularly. With software developments in SPAM detection, emails are sometimes stopped and not received by site owner. Britnett suggest to set up a 2nd back up email address. This works like duel circuit brakes on a car. If one fails the other is back up. You will receive two emails per contact when both are working. All Britnett sites can handle multiple email addresses sent from each enquiry. You can add a 2nd back up email address in the CMS admin of your Carver or Showcase site or if you need help simply contact your Authorised Agent to instigate. Email Account Open Link -This is when you click a CONTACT button on a site rather than going to a contact page with a message box. This link opens the email client on the visitors PC. Avoid a links that open email client link on your site. REASON: If the PC your visitor is using does not have an email client set up (E.G.-Outlook etc) no email can be sent. Frustrating for your site visitor and you don't get the contact. Keep it simple - Make it easy for visitors to contact you and use the contact page with a message box. >>Search Engine News - Justified Text Justified text on a site in some cases can be difficult to read by the search engines. I am told by my Google contact that they have no problems reading justified text but they went on to explain some justified complex fonts can prove difficult. So avoid justified text if you can. >>Submit To Google List your site with Google. If you are not in BizSub SEO we suggest now that you add your URL to Google here >>> www.google.com/addurl/Two years ago we were reliably informed that this was a waste of time by our Google insider - Things have changed at Google, they now use this data. If you are in BizSub SEO Britnett will have done this for you - DON'T SUBMIT AGAIN.

>>Difference Between Hits and Page Views Hits - The number of times a program or item of data has been accessed or matches some condition. For example, when you download a page from a Website, the page itself and all graphic elements that it contains each count as one hit to that Web site. Therefore one page could be any number of hits. If a site statistic report says you have received X number of hits this includes all graphics on each page. Hits on a site are higher that Page Views. So don't be impressed by the guy in the pub bragging how many hits his site is receiving! Page Views - A Web page, which can be of any length and can contain any number of graphic images. The HTML page itself and every image are each considered a hit. Thus, one page view is exactly that. Carver site stats include Page Views. A more accurate way of measuring your site. >>Tip From a Fellow Britnett Client... Thanks for the tips... Re Alternative Email addresses: One I have for you. Use Google Mail as an alternative email address. I started using this as it gives me 2700mb web space and my e-mails info@scottestates.co.ukand mike@scottestates.co.ukare bounced straight to Google Mail. Also Google Mail has an inbuilt mail notifier which appears on the desktop when new mail is received. Best regards Mike Woods - www.scottestates.co.uk To bounce your emails to another email address like Mike's simply contact Britnett. (Your domain name must be managed by Britnett)
>>Google Search Change Google now ignores "http://" in a search. If you are searching for a URL (Domain Name) omit the "http://" Just include the "www." If you search with the http:// Google will show "did not match any documents" even if the site is indexed. >>Need Help or want to ask Questions This site has been designed for you - visit The Britnett Client resource Site Easy to navigate and contact us for help from any connected PC. Using Your Web Site as a Marketing Tool August 2006 Thanks for all the highly positive feedback we received last month. >>Your Domain Name - How To Keep It Safe Most companies now have their own Domain Name... Keep It Safe - note in your diary when it is due to expire. Ensure you re-new in a timely manor. Your domain host will remind you - BUT - don't rely on their email getting to you. If you don't renew on time you may lose it. You can chose to re-new for periods of 2 years, 5 years and now up to 10 years. I would suggest to take the 10 year option - saves admin and it works out a little cheaper in the long run. Read More>>> Emails to Match - Make sure you set up your email addresses to matches your domain name. GOOD EXAMPLE: Web Address - www.britnett.co.uk Email Address - support@britnett.co.uk BAD EXAMPLE: Web Address - www.abccompany.co.uk Email address abc@aol.com >>How To See Inside Your Competitions Website Search engines are Robots - they crawl through websites and read all the content text contained within a website to rank the site. They also read the META information not seen by us humans. To see any website META information do this: - View the site you are interested in as normal (use Microsoft Internet Explorer as your browser).
- At the top of your browser window click the word 'View' then from the drop down click 'Source'.
- This will produce a Note pad - plain text page - which will show you the META information as shown below>>
>>AOL Filters A number of clients have reported problems receiving emails from the website to an AOL address. This is caused by the AOL spam filters. The filters in some cases think the email is SPAM. AOL are very advanced but as in this case sometimes too advanced - some web developers refer to AOL as AO Hell! If you us AOL addresses I suggest you adjust your filters to a slightly lower level and add a 2nd email address as a back up. Read More>>> |

>>The Importance of Directions - Please add to your Site. Once again the search engines have changed the way they index your site. This means your position when a potential client (don't forget your current clients) search for you, your place may have changed. One strong point we have found is the Importance of Directions on your site. If you have a Directions page on your site the content will include your location in detail. I suggest you mention where you are located often on this page. This is a content rich page. This helps tell the search engines where you are located. So when a searcher looks for your service in your area, you will be ranked higher than the competition. Delivering "relevant" search results - people looking for your service in your area will find you. Example Here>>> >>Get Google to Pay You - By Advertising on your Site. A huge growth area on the Internet is Google AdSense. AdSense is a facility that lets you advertise other websites on your site and you get paid for it. The adverts appear as "Sponsored Links" on your site where you want them. The adverts will get their subject from the content of your site - so be careful you are not advertising on your site for the competition. A good suggestion is to create a new site or separated page and write about your subject. This could be your business or your interest - lets say sailing. Once you have built a site or page all about sailing you can add the sponsored links. These links will be advertising other sites about sailing. Each time a visitor clicks this sponsored link you earn money from Google. Open An Account with Google Here>>> >>Funnel Clients Into Your Site - Gather Sales and Contacts. Depending on your industry there may be a large website specialising in selling for you your products. Ebay covers most markets and Auto Trader is great for people selling autos. These sites have buyers on-line. Lets say you sell guitars. A good suggestion is to advertise a lost leader - a really great deal- on Ebay with a link into your site. This way people seriously looking for that type of guitar could see your site by clicking the link. This is a targeted visitor. They want to buy a guitar! Or at least they are interested in guitars. Capture them by inviting any visitor to sigh-up to your email news letter. If you don't have an auto opt-in email sign-up please contact your Authorised Agent to set-up for you. Carver has this fantastic feature included as standard. EXAMPLE: A Britnett client, used car dealer, links to his site from Auto Trader with very good results. He advertises a few cars on Auto Trader with a link to his site with the full stock. Simple cost effective way to get targeted potential clients to your site. NOTE: Always make it easy for visitors to contact you. Add helpful tips relating to your industry. |

Using Your Web Site as a Marketing Tool>>Creating A Secure Password
With the growing number of hackers and malicious users in the Internet community, user names and passwords have become a hot commodity. In order to secure your information, whether it is your Britnett website password, or email account passwords, Britnett recommends that the following conventions be used to create secure passwords:
- Minimum of 8 characters
- Upper and lower case letters
- Special characters such as: '#', '$', '*'
- Combine numbers and letters
While the above is not a sure bet that you will never have a security breach, by creating more secure passwords, the likelihood of having your password compromised by someone "guessing" it becomes less and less likely. It is best to memorise any passwords or save in a secure place. Also if you keep client data this should also be password protected.
>>Email Marketing
A very powerful way to market and keep your company name and brand in front of your clients and potential clients. Send timely news and up dates to your clients and potential clients you have spoken with. Email is so cheap compared to mail shots you can afford to invest a little time writing your emails. Always have links to your website, preferably a dedicated page as opposed to just sending visitors to your home page and making them work to find what they want. Keep It Simple! and Easy For Your Visitors! With site stats or a counter you can measure the success of your email by looking at your site stats after an email has been sent. (If you do not have site stats on your site - ask your Local Authorised Agent to add a counter to any page on your site for you - this is a FREE service).
But tread carefully. Make sure all the people you email know you and give the recipients an option to Unsubscribe. If you use Britnett Carver this automatic facility is included with the software.
If you use Britnett-Carver you will see you can view your site stats by the page. Go to Admin then click Reports > Site Visitors > By Month.
>>How Come We Receive a Load of Spam Emails?
There are three ways Spammers get our email addresses:
- From bought lists - Spammers buy lists from other websites and blast them out in the hope you respond. Its a huge numbers game. Ignore all Spam. Don't reply.
- Software exists that will crawl the Internet looking for email addresses then add to a bulk list automatic - then Spam them out.
- Guess software will guess an email address. Favourite targets are the likes of AOL, Yahoo and Hotmail. Its a safe bet that johnsmith@aol.comexists. So this software churns out guessed email addresses like this in the hope it hits. So never reply to Spam email as this confirms this is a real address. If you do you will receive more Spam.
A good client once jokingly said "I am receiving a lot of Spam emails about Viagra. How do they know I need it?"
>>Google AdWords - Fast Marketing
An amazing new way to market. These adverts appear on Google and its partner sites as Sponsored Links or Ads By Google. You can place an advert in minutes with a link to your site or a specific page in your site. This way you can 'Buy' site visitors looking for your company or what you do. See them to the right and sometimes at the top of a Google page after you have searched. AdWords have proved so powerful that the traditional press and magazine advertising are struggling and starting to use them them selves. Even big TV advertisers like Johnson and Johnson have changed their advertising budgets due to AdWords and other Internet advertising.
You can open a Google account from google.co.uk. They charge £5 account open fee then you simply pay per click to your site. Make sure you set a low daily budget to start and end the campaign say in 2-4 months to allow you to monitor results. The default end campaign date set by Google is 2010. If you are a BizSub client Britnett Support and your Authorised Agent will manage a Google AdWord account for you. BizSub information.

Using Your Web Site as a Marketing Tool
Making The Most of Your Marketing Campaign.
You've set up your Web site and now you're ready for the site to help with your marketing. Any marketing will bring traffic to your site and increase your sale and enquiry numbers. Before you book any advert or other marketing make sure you know the route to success. (any advert should dedicate 25% of the space to your website - the address and what a visitor will find on the site)Set the Course and Measure.
Before you begin any marketing efforts- This includes advertising in press, magazines, Google AdWord, radio, TV and even the local free advertiser- you need to establish your campaign goals. You are going to spend hard earned profit from your business. So think at the start what you expect to achieve from the spend. Do this by determining a clear list of goals before starting the execution phase. E.G. Are you trying to build your brand? Increase site visitors by 5%? Sell more product? Build your database. Know what your expectations for the campaign are and be prepared to measure your success accordingly. What are you going to get out of your spend.
Once you have decided what you hope to achieve from your spend, measure whether or not you've been successful by determining a clear list of goals before starting the marketing, you can be sure you're on the right track once your campaign gets underway when you are measuring results.
How To Measure.
Make a note of your site visitors from your hit counter or Site Stats the day before any advert starts. After the advert has ran its course check site visitors again and compare to the last months hits. Your hits should show an increase. Always ask how your enquirers found you; on the phone, in person or through the site. You may be surprised. E.G. - If a lot of clients said they found your site after reading your local advert - up your budget on this. Your web site is your business. You want to buy visitors.
Set The Costs.
When you have your expectations set, you can begin to determine a realistic budget. What are you willing to pay for an enquiry, site visitor, phone call, a purchase or a chance to give a quote? I know a company who is willing to pay £90 for an enquiry - they expect to convert 1 in 10. Obviously, if you hope to introduce your business to a new region of the country, you need to come up with a lot more cash than if you want to increase current customer loyalty. As you start working out the numbers, err on the side of over budgeting. As most accountants will tell you - Think what you think it will cost - then double it. When you're building momentum and beginning to see results, running out of money could derail your success so budget realistically and budget part of the sale to go back into marketing. When you're thinking about budget, don't forget to factor in:
Advertising costs
Creative materials
Extra staff
Contest prizes
Lost revenue from price cuts
Get Creative
Your goals for the campaign will dictate how you express your message. If you were introducing a company brand for example, you might have a different approach than you would if you were selling discounted products. For example: if you want to shift old stock at low prices your message will be 'Stack em High sell em cheap'. Building your brand awareness will be 'Slow, thought provoking, memorable, cool, and a professional reassuring message'.
Once you determine expected results, you can begin to develop the creative messaging you need to communicate your message to the rest of the world. Again, your goals for the campaign will dictate how you express your vision.
During the creative planning phase, you should determine how you are going to support your campaign. Will you need to hire an outside agency to design banners and emails for you? Will you need to redesign your site or add special landing pages? Will your campaign have print advertising components? What about radio and TV? Try to think of all the different possibilities you might need so that your creative elements can have a consistent look and feel.
Penetrate the Market.
You've finally decided on the prefect messaging and designs to support your campaign. Now, it's time to let the rest of the world see it. Here's where your marketing plan comes into play. To support your campaign, you need scheduled ways to let your target market know about your campaign.
If a full-page ad in The Sunday Times or The Sun is out of the question. There are plenty of ways to support your campaign online without blowing your entire budget. In addition to email marketing and advertising on your own Web site, don't forget about trading banner ads and links with other sites, including your campaign in your newsletter and giving presentations at local organisations are all low cost options. You have an established business - now create a new department that just concentrates on getting business and getting your message out. Its all about contact.
Give it Time.
One of the hardest parts of a marketing campaign can be staying the course. I am guilty of giving up after a 7 day advert then a week later I get an order. Hopefully, you considered a realistic campaign duration during your planning stages. Keep in mind that it takes time to build momentum and you shouldn't expect to see immediate results even if you've poured more money into this campaign than others. One of the hardest parts of a marketing campaign can be staying the course and waiting to see if what you're doing is working. Keep measuring. This doesn't mean you can launch your campaign with a big bang and then forget about it for three months. It does mean, however, that you need to continue your efforts for a predetermined amount of time and measure the results you're getting before you abandon it altogether or take a whole new approach.
Try and Try Again.
Sometimes the slightest change can make a good campaign even better. Always talk to your clients about your marketing - after all they are the experts.
