4-2-07 Security Alert.
Some Britnett Websites were disabled yesterday evening due to a security alert detected at our host Hostway. All sites are now enabled. Thank you for your patience while all sites were checked.
Details.
Saturday 3-2-07 at 9.01am Central Time Hostway (Britnett Host Company) determined a security issue which have been used for spamming purposes. I.E. someone attempted to hack into one or some of the Carver sites. Hostway have put the Carver server on-hold for security reasons. Cadmin and CGI parts of the Carver sites were disabled by Hostway. Therefore an attempt to log into Admin or click onto a product page showed an Error 500 page. All pages were safe and backed up.
This issue is totally unforeseen, very frustrating, but obviously essential to protect our clients data, email addresses and sites.
Apologies for the inconvenience this out of our control issue has caused. The disabled status is due to the high level of security Hostway provide for us and our clients. Hostway and Britnett are monitoring the server load this week as a precautionary measure.
1-2-07. Chain letter Alert Over Cruel Hoax.
Burton Trader readers are being warned not to fall victim to a sick and cruel hoax chain letter preying on their goodwill and sympathy which has surfaced in the town. Staff at dozens of local businesses and organisations including Age Concern at the Voluntary Services Centre and Partners stationers in Station Street have already been unwittingly taken in by what initially seems to be a heartrending plea by a terminally ill small boy. And a cancer charity has slammed the letter, purporting to come from seven-year-old John Gregg, from Surrey, as a disgrace. According to the letter, John is suffering from terminal cancer. It says he wants to get into the record books for collecting the most compliments slips. It asks the recipient: Please would you be kind enough to send a compliment slip to John and forward the attached list to a further 10 new companies, adding your list to the existing ones already attached.
In fact, this is a copy of a genuine attempt in 1989 by cancer victim Craig Shergold, also from Surrey, who made a bid to enter the Guinness Book of World Records. Happily Craig, who is now in his 20s, has since made a full recovery. But the copycat scam, which cruelly tugs at peoples heart strings, is still pulling in thousands of letters every week from people who have been duped. Many recipients, eager to help in other ways, are also believed to have sent donations.

After hitting the 2006 target the Support Team were awarded with the use of two light aircraft's for an hour to fly where they want. Alan Bradley took one plane and Paul King followed with the other team members on-board. They flew from Teesside Airport near Darlington back to Barnard Castle then North past Bishop Auckland over Durham Cathedral, skimmed Newcastle and Sunderland then headed back South along the coast passing Middlesbrough and safely landing back at Darlington.
