Real shop - Darlington > Flooring Substrates
Flooring Substrates
Beech chip, orchid bark, vermiculite, aspen, calcium sand and corn chip

Here at Coast to Coast we are all hobbyists like you. We realise that one of the most costly parts of keeping your herptiles correctly is the need to replace their substrates or bedding. For this reason we keep the cost down for our visitors (to our real shop in Darlington) by providing a self serve scoop service. There is a wide selection of substrates to suit most species. Simply weigh as much or as little as you like and pop it onto the scales! Saves a fortune, but to save even more we offer you the option of buying bulk sacks too!

Beech Chip

Great for desert reptiles
Beech chip
This is great for desert species, it is superb at literally soaking up humidity in the vivarium to create a dry atmosphere. We have used it to great effect with Bearded Dragons, Corn snakes, Uromastyx etc etc.

Orchid Bark

Great for tropical rainforest reptiles
Orchid bark
Suitable for rainforest species, as long as it is maintained damp it will release moisture into the air to create a humid environment. Do not let it dry out, once it has become powdering it will stop doing its job! We like it when housing species such as Water Dragons, Red Foot tortoises, Royal pythons and the like.

Calcium Sand

Great for geckos that suffer with gut impaction problems with normal sand
Calcium sand
The safest choice of sand for species that suffer from gut impaction. We have used this particular sand in our breeding groups for years without any impaction problems at all. Ideal for Leopard geckos, Wonder geckos, Big Headed geckos and other terrestrial desert geckos. We didnt like it for Beardies though!

Corn Chip

Still popular, but use with care - has been known to swell up in the animals gut after being swallowed.

Vermiculite

Great for egg incubation and tarantulas
Vermiculite
Used universally by spider keepers (often mixed with peat) and also the most popular reptile egg incubation medium.

Aspen bedding

Great for Colubrid snakes such as Corn, King and Rat snakes
Aspen bedding
The flooring substrate of choice for many breeders of Corns, Kings and other Colubrid snakes. Nice and soft, with extra absorbency.
