Grove Farm is located a couple of miles outside the village of Staindrop.

Staindrop is located a few miles from the market town of Barnard Castle and 10 miles from Darlington.

Staindrop
Staindrop is an attractive village near Raby Castle, former stronghold of the Nevills, has always been associated with the Lords of Raby. St. Mary's Church contains the Nevill effigies, fine examples of English monumental art.

Raby Castle
Built for the mighty dynasty of the Nevills, this great fortress stands proud and defiant, its history rolling back almost a thousand years. King Cnut owned the estate in the early 11th Century and may well have built the first castle here; the present building was begun by John, 3rd Baron Nevill in about 1360. The Nevills were the most powerful family in the north: renowned warriors whose ultimate goal was the Crown itself. At Raby, they built a stronghold of soaring towers and impregnable walls as a symbol of their power, wealth and ambition.

Barnard Castle
Barnard Castle is a working market town and has a flourishing market held on 'the cobbles' in Market Place every Wednesday, the main weekday market is also supplemented with an occasional Saturday farmers market.

The town has many pubs, hotels, shops and restaurants for you to visit along with the chance to discover the towns history and magnificent local scenery.  A short walk down the road 'The Bank' takes you to the river Tees where you can cross the river via a foot bridge or the main road stone bridge.  There are walks along the river Tees that hook up with the Teesdale Way.

Driving you can visit a string of picturesque villages; going West through Lartington, Cotherstone Romaldkirk, Middleton in Teesdale then on and up past High Force - England's Tallest waterfall.  Keep going to drive over the high Moore Pennines towards the Lake District.  Going East you can pass Whorlton Village, Gainford then Piercebridge and on to Darlington.

Barnard Castle was the inspiration for Turner the landscape artist and visited by Charles Dickens, Oliver Cromwell and John Wesley.

Darlington
Darlington Railway Centre and Museum (10 Miles)
The museum collection covers the railways of North-East England, with particular emphasis on the Darlington area. Of greatest significance is Stephenson's "Locomotion" (1825), which hauled the inaugural train on the Stockton and Darlington Railway.
