Rapid Prototyping also referred to as free-form modelling, was developed in the early 1980’s in America.  It is the name given to a group of processes that allow designers and engineers to produce one-off or small batches of complex components. Since the early 80’s these manufacturing methodologies have become increasingly popular and are now used in many industries.  Here at NTB we primarily use these machines to produce one-off finished, or near finished, products.  We say “near finished” as these components can then be subjected to further finishing techniques to give the final product a more realistic finish, for instance painting or chroming.
